Strawberry and Balsamic Glazed Apple Crumble Bars

A twist on the classic apple crumble, these bars combine the sweetness of apples with the tanginess of strawberries and balsamic glaze.

Strawberry and Balsamic Glazed Apple Crumble Bars

Servings: 12-15

Ingredients:

  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp balsamic glaze
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples and strawberries. Mix in the granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, and brown sugar.
  4. Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Press half of the crumb mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Top with the apple-strawberry mixture, then sprinkle with the remaining crumb mixture.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before glazing with balsamic glaze.

Strawberry Balsamic Glaze

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a blender or food processor, puree the sliced strawberries until smooth.
  2. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any seeds.
  3. Whisk together the strawberry puree and balsamic vinegar in a small bowl.
  4. Add the granulated sugar and whisk until dissolved.

To serve, slice into bars and drizzle with the strawberry balsamic glaze.
