Spiced Pear and Gingerbread Crumble

A warm and comforting crumble with a spiced pear filling and a crunchy gingerbread topping. Perfect for a cozy autumn evening.

Ingredients:

  • For the filling:
    • 4 ripe but firm pears, peeled, cored and sliced
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • For the gingerbread topping:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup rolled oats
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and diced

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish.
  2. Make the filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced pears, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Toss to coat. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the topping: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, oats, brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the gingerbread topping evenly over the pear filling.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pears are tender.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
