Spiced Pear and Ginger Scones with Cardamom Glaze

These fragrant scones are packed with warming spices and juicy pears, topped with a sweet cardamom glaze. Perfect for a cozy autumn morning.

Ingredients:

  • For the scones:

    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
    • 1/2 cup buttermilk
    • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
    • 1 ripe pear, peeled, cored, and diced
  • For the cardamom glaze:

    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons milk
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Add to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced pear.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for just a few seconds. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Use a sharp knife or biscuit cutter to cut out scones. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each scone.
  6. Brush the tops of the scones with milk. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. While the scones are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and cardamom in a small bowl until smooth.
  8. Once the scones are out of the oven, drizzle generously with the cardamom glaze. Serve warm and enjoy!
