Salted Caramel Apple Fritters with Cinnamon Cream

Crispy apple fritters dipped in a warm salted caramel sauce and topped with a fluffy cinnamon cream. Perfect for fall!

Salted Caramel Apple Fritters with Cinnamon Cream

Ingredients:

  • For the fritters:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 medium apple, peeled, cored and diced
  • For the salted caramel sauce:
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
    • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • For the cinnamon cream:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Make the fritters: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apple.
  2. Heat oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Fry fritters: Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the salted caramel sauce: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat. Cook, swirling occasionally, until sugar dissolves and turns a light amber color. Carefully pour in heavy cream (it will bubble vigorously), whisking constantly. Stir in butter and salt until smooth. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  5. Make the cinnamon cream: In a chilled bowl, beat heavy cream with powdered sugar and cinnamon until stiff peaks form.
  6. Assemble fritters: Dip warm fritters into salted caramel sauce and top with a dollop of cinnamon cream. Serve immediately.
