Matcha and White Chocolate Croissants
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups warm milk (105°F to 115°F)
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup matcha powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
- White chocolate chips or shavings, for garnish
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the Dough
In a small bowl, combine warm milk and melted butter. Stir until dissolved.
Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
Step 3: Add Egg and Milk Mixture
Add the egg and milk mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
Step 4: Knead the Dough
Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Step 5: Rest the Dough
Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest at room temperature for 1 hour.
Step 6: Roll Out the Dough
Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch (6 mm).
Step 7: Cut Out Croissants
Cut out croissant shapes using a pastry cutter or the edge of a knife.
Step 8: Make Matcha Filling
In a separate bowl, whisk together matcha powder and sugar. Add melted white chocolate and mix until smooth.
Step 9: Assemble Croissants
Roll out each piece of dough to a long rectangle. Place a small amount of matcha filling at one end of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on either side.
Fold the dough over the filling to form a croissant shape.
Step 10: Proof and Bake
Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) between each pastry.
Proof at room temperature for 1 hour or until slightly puffed.
Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Step 11: Serve
Dust with confectioners' sugar and garnish with white chocolate chips or shavings.
Serve warm and enjoy!
