Matcha and Black Sesame Blondies
Introduction
These matcha and black sesame blondies are an innovative fusion of Eastern flavors and Western baking. The subtle bitterness of matcha green tea pairs perfectly with the nutty, slightly sweet flavor of black sesame seeds.
Ingredients
- 1 and 1/2 sticks (9 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder (high-quality, ceremonial grade)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup black sesame seeds
- 1 cup chopped white chocolate or white chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8-inch x 8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Make the Blondie Batter
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Set aside.
- In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by matcha powder and vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the flour mixture until just combined.
- Stir in black sesame seeds.
Add White Chocolate
- Fold in chopped white chocolate or chips to create a marbled effect.
Bake
- Pour batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
- Allow the blondies to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For an intense matcha flavor, use a high-quality ceremonial grade matcha powder.
- If you can't find white chocolate, substitute with chopped almonds or pistachios for added texture.
- Store the blondies at room temperature for up to 3 days and freeze for longer storage.
