Matcha Tiramisu Waffles

A unique dessert waffle recipe that combines the flavors of matcha tiramisu and crispy, golden-brown waffles.

Matcha Tiramisu Waffles

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 12-16 ladyfingers (for the tiramisu mixture)
  • Whipped mascarpone cheese and matcha powder (for serving)

Instructions

Make the Waffle Batter

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, matcha powder, milk, and melted butter.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Let batter rest for 10-15 minutes before waffling.

Make the Tiramisu Mixture

  1. Dip ladyfingers in coffee or espresso for about 3-5 seconds on each side. They should be soft and pliable but not too wet.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the dipped ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, matcha powder, and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined.

Assemble and Serve

  1. Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high heat.
  2. Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup, scoop the waffle batter onto the center of the waffle iron.
  3. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Repeat with remaining batter, keeping cooked waffles warm in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  5. To assemble, place a matcha-infused whipped mascarpone cheese dollop on top of each waffle.
  6. Place a few ladyfingers on top of the whipped mascarpone cheese.
  7. Garnish with additional matcha powder and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Make sure to not overmix the batter or the tiramisu mixture, as this can result in dense, soggy waffles and ladyfingers.
  • If you don't have a matcha-infused whipped mascarpone cheese, you can make one by whisking together 1 cup heavy cream, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon matcha powder until stiff peaks form.
