Matcha Green Tea Tiramisu

A Japanese-inspired twist on the classic Italian dessert, featuring matcha green tea and ladyfinger cookies soaked in espresso.

Matcha Green Tea Tiramisu

Ingredients:

  • 12-16 ladyfingers
  • 1/2 cup matcha powder
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed espresso
  • 1/4 cup green tea syrup (see note)
  • Whipped cream and matcha powder for garnish

Instructions:

Prepare the Matcha Cream:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together mascarpone cheese, granulated sugar, almond milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Add matcha powder to the bowl and whisk until fully incorporated.

Soak the Ladyfingers:

  1. Brew a cup of strong espresso and let it cool.
  2. Dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso for about 3-5 seconds on each side. They should be soft and pliable but not too wet.
  3. Place the soaked ladyfingers in a single layer on a wire rack to dry.

Assemble the Tiramisu:

  1. In a large serving dish, create a layer of soaked ladyfingers.
  2. Spread half of the matcha cream over the ladyfingers.
  3. Repeat the layers, starting with the ladyfingers and then the remaining matcha cream.
  4. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.

Garnish:

  1. Just before serving, sprinkle a layer of matcha powder on top of the tiramisu.
  2. Top with whipped cream and additional matcha powder if desired.

Note: Green Tea Syrup

  • Combine 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated sugar in a saucepan.
  • Add 1/4 cup matcha powder to the saucepan and whisk until dissolved.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup into a clean glass bottle and let it cool.

Enjoy your Matcha Green Tea Tiramisu!
