Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon-sugar mixture (see note)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the white chocolate glaze:

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Make the dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Stir to dissolve yeast, then let sit for 5-7 minutes until frothy.

Add sugar, flour, salt, melted butter, egg, and matcha powder to the bowl. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10-12 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Prepare the filling

In a small saucepan, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon-sugar mixture. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugars are dissolved.
