Maple Walnut Pecan Pie Bars

Introduction

These Maple Walnut Pecan Pie Bars are a delicious twist on the classic pecan pie. The addition of pure Canadian maple syrup gives them a rich and complex flavor, while the chopped walnuts add a satisfying crunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 sticks (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure Canadian maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup pecan halves

Instructions

Preheat and Prepare the Crust

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.

Make the Crust

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and brown sugar. Add the cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Bake the Crust

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let cool completely in the pan.

Make the Filling

In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir in the chopped walnuts and pecan halves.

Assemble and Bake the Bars

Pour the filling over the cooled crust and smooth out the top. Return to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set.

Cool and Cut

Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars and serving.

Variations

These Maple Walnut Pecan Pie Bars are perfect as a dessert or snack on their own, but feel free to customize them by adding other nuts or flavorings.
