Maple Walnut Crumble Bars

A twist on traditional apple crumble, these bars feature a sweet and sticky maple walnut filling topped with a crunchy oat and brown sugar crumble.

Maple Walnut Crumble Bars

Servings: 9-12 people

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the filling:

  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

For the crumble topping:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt for the crust.
  3. Add in the melted butter and stir until the mixture forms a crumbly dough.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  5. Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Filling:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  2. Stir in the chopped walnuts.

Assembling and Baking the Crumble Bars

  1. Pour the filling over the baked crust.
  2. In another medium bowl, mix together the rolled oats, light brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon for the crumble topping.
  3. Add in the melted butter and stir until the mixture forms a crumbly texture.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the filling.
  5. Bake the bars for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Cooling and Serving

  1. Let the bars cool completely in the baking dish on a wire rack.
  2. Once cooled, refrigerate the bars for at least 4 hours or overnight to set the filling.
  3. Cut into 9-12 squares and serve chilled.
