Maple Walnut Crumble Bars
Servings: 9-12 people
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the filling:
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
For the crumble topping:
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt for the crust.
- Add in the melted butter and stir until the mixture forms a crumbly dough.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
Filling:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Stir in the chopped walnuts.
Assembling and Baking the Crumble Bars
- Pour the filling over the baked crust.
- In another medium bowl, mix together the rolled oats, light brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon for the crumble topping.
- Add in the melted butter and stir until the mixture forms a crumbly texture.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the filling.
- Bake the bars for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Cooling and Serving
- Let the bars cool completely in the baking dish on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, refrigerate the bars for at least 4 hours or overnight to set the filling.
- Cut into 9-12 squares and serve chilled.
