Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk (105°F to 115°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

For the caramel dipping sauce:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Make the dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Stir to dissolve yeast, then let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add sugar, flour, and salt to the bowl. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the filling

  1. In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

Assemble the rolls

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  3. Spread the cooled filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  4. Roll the dough into a tight log and cut it into 12 equal pieces.
  5. Place the rolls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch of space between each roll.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Make the caramel dipping sauce

  1. In a small saucepan, combine heavy cream, granulated sugar, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
