Maple Walnut Cinnamon Rolls

Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls infused with the warmth of maple syrup and the crunch of walnuts.

Maple Walnut Cinnamon Rolls

Introduction

These maple walnut cinnamon rolls are a delightful twist on traditional cinnamon rolls. The addition of pure Canadian maple syrup gives them a rich, velvety flavor, while chopped walnuts add a satisfying crunch.

Servings

8-10 rolls

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (105°F to 115°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the filling:

  • 1/2 cup pure Canadian maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Stir to dissolve the yeast, then let it sit for 5-7 minutes until foamy.

Add sugar, flour, and salt to the bowl. Mix on low speed with a stand mixer or a wooden spoon until just combined.

With the mixer running or stirring constantly, add melted butter and egg one at a time, mixing until smooth.

Step 2: Knead the Dough

Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes, either using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment or by hand. The dough should be smooth and elastic.

Step 3: Let the Dough Rise

Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 4: Prepare the Filling

In a small bowl, mix together maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir in chopped walnuts.

Step 5: Roll Out the Dough

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Spread the maple walnut filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.

Step 6: Roll the Cinnamon Rolls

Starting from one long edge, roll up the dough tightly but gently. Cut into 8-10 equal pieces.

Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving about 1 inch of space between each roll.

Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.

Step 7: Bake the Cinnamon Rolls

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the cinnamon rolls for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Tips

  • Use pure Canadian maple syrup for the best flavor.
  • Don't overmix the dough, as this can lead to tough cinnamon rolls.
  • If you want a stronger maple flavor, drizzle the rolls with additional maple syrup before serving.
