Maple Bacon Donuts with Brown Sugar Glaze

A sweet and savory twist on classic donuts, featuring crispy bacon and a rich brown sugar glaze.

Maple Bacon Donuts with Brown Sugar Glaze

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • Brown sugar glaze (see below)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the melted butter, egg, maple syrup, and crumbled bacon to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Once the oil is hot, use a cookie scoop or spoon to drop the dough into the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove the donuts from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Allow the donuts to cool slightly before glazing.

Brown Sugar Glaze

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Mix the powdered sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream together until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed by adding more powdered sugar or cream.

Assembly

  1. Drizzle the brown sugar glaze over the cooled donuts.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Note: This recipe is a modified version of Beignets (recipe #5) with added maple syrup, bacon, and a brown sugar glaze.
