Maple Bacon Donuts with Brown Sugar Glaze
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
- Brown sugar glaze (see below)
Instructions
- Preheat the oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add the melted butter, egg, maple syrup, and crumbled bacon to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Once the oil is hot, use a cookie scoop or spoon to drop the dough into the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the donuts from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Allow the donuts to cool slightly before glazing.
Brown Sugar Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Mix the powdered sugar, brown sugar, and heavy cream together until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed by adding more powdered sugar or cream.
Assembly
- Drizzle the brown sugar glaze over the cooled donuts.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Note: This recipe is a modified version of Beignets (recipe #5) with added maple syrup, bacon, and a brown sugar glaze.
