  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

For the brown sugar crumble:

  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:

To make the dough:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Stir to dissolve yeast, then let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10-12 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

To make the filling:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together crumbled bacon, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. Set aside to use later.

To assemble and bake the rolls:

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4-inch thickness.
  2. Spread the maple bacon filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  3. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from one of the long sides.
  4. Place the rolled dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, seam-side down.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.

To make the brown sugar crumble:

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  2. Add cold butter to dry ingredients and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in cinnamon.
  4. Set aside to use later.

To top with brown sugar crumble:

  1. Allow the rolls to cool for 5-10 minutes before topping with brown sugar crumble.
  2. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the top of the rolls, making sure to cover the entire surface.
