Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk (105°F - 115°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

  • 6 slices of thick-cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick, ground
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Make the dough

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter, sugar, egg, and flour. Mix on low speed with an electric mixer or a wooden spoon until just combined.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes elastic and shiny.

Let the dough rise

  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel.
  2. Let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the filling

  1. In a small pan, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels and crumble into small pieces.
  2. Mix the maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts (if using) in a separate bowl.

Assemble the rolls

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  3. Spread the maple syrup mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle crumbled bacon and chopped walnuts (if using) on top of the sugar mixture.
  5. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  6. Place the rolls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch space between each roll.

Bake the rolls

  1. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips and Variations

  • For an extra crunchy topping, sprinkle some chopped bacon bits on top of the rolls before baking.
  • Substitute pecans or hazelnuts for walnuts if desired.
  • Drizzle with maple syrup glaze (1 part maple syrup to 2 parts powdered sugar) after baking for added sweetness.

Enjoy your delicious Maple Bacon Cinnamon Rolls!
