Cinnamon Apple Galette with Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients:
For the Pastry Crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup ice-cold water
For the Filling:
- 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
Instructions:
To Make the Pastry Crust:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice-cold water, stirring with a fork until the dough comes together in a ball.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
To Make the Filling:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and brown sugar. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
- Let the apple mixture sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes, allowing it to release its juices.
To Assemble and Bake the Galette:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
- Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Arrange the apple mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around it.
- Fold the edges of the pastry crust over the apple filling, pressing gently to seal.
- Brush the pastry crust with a little bit of milk or beaten egg for a golden glaze.
- Bake the galette for about 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
To Serve:
- Remove the galette from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
