Cinnamon Apple Galette with Vanilla Ice Cream

A sweet and spicy apple galette filled with cinnamon and topped with a crispy pastry crust, served with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream.

Cinnamon Apple Galette with Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients:

For the Pastry Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup ice-cold water

For the Filling:

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions:

To Make the Pastry Crust:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Add cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice-cold water, stirring with a fork until the dough comes together in a ball.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

To Make the Filling:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and brown sugar. Mix well to coat the apples evenly.
  2. Let the apple mixture sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes, allowing it to release its juices.

To Assemble and Bake the Galette:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  3. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  4. Arrange the apple mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around it.
  5. Fold the edges of the pastry crust over the apple filling, pressing gently to seal.
  6. Brush the pastry crust with a little bit of milk or beaten egg for a golden glaze.
  7. Bake the galette for about 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

To Serve:

  1. Remove the galette from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing.
  2. Serve warm with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Note: This recipe can be modified to include other spices or flavors, such as nutmeg or cardamom, to give it an extra boost of flavor!
