Servings

Serves 8-10 people

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup ice-cold water

For the filling:

  • 6-8 medium apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or other tart variety)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce (see note)

For the topping:

  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

Make the crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and cinnamon. Add butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add water, stirring with a fork until dough comes together in a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the filling:

  1. In a separate large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until apples are evenly coated.
  2. Set aside while you roll out the crust.

Assemble and bake the galette:

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll out chilled dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Transfer dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Arrange apple mixture on one half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around edges.
  3. Fold other half of dough over apples and press edges to seal. Trim any excess dough from edges.
  4. Brush crust with egg wash (beaten egg mixed with a little water) and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Bake until golden:

  1. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is tender.
  2. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the topping:

  1. Melt salted caramel sauce in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave in short increments, stirring between each heating.
  2. Sprinkle chopped pecans around edges of galette and drizzle with melted caramel sauce.

Serve

Slice warm galette into wedges and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
