Cinnamon Apple Galette with Salted Caramel and Pecans

Ingredients
For the crust:
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup ice-cold water
For the filling:
- 6-8 medium apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or other tart variety)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup salted caramel sauce (see note)
For the topping:
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving
Instructions
Make the crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and cinnamon. Add butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add water, stirring with a fork until dough comes together in a ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare the filling:
- In a separate large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until apples are evenly coated.
- Set aside while you roll out the crust.
Assemble and bake the galette:
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out chilled dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Transfer dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Arrange apple mixture on one half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around edges.
- Fold other half of dough over apples and press edges to seal. Trim any excess dough from edges.
- Brush crust with egg wash (beaten egg mixed with a little water) and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Bake until golden:
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is tender.
- Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare the topping:
- Melt salted caramel sauce in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave in short increments, stirring between each heating.
- Sprinkle chopped pecans around edges of galette and drizzle with melted caramel sauce.
Serve
Slice warm galette into wedges and serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
