- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup ice water
For the Filling:
- 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cinnamon powder
- 1 tsp nutmeg powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Cinnamon Crumble:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
For the Salted Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- To make the pastry crust, combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Add cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, stirring with a fork until the dough comes together in a ball. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Transfer it to a 9-inch (23 cm) diameter baking sheet or pizza stone.
- To prepare the filling, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder, and salt in a large bowl. Mix until the apples are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
- Arrange the apple mixture on one half of the pastry crust, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 cm) border around the edges.
- Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to form a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal.
- To make the cinnamon crumble, combine flour, brown sugar, cold butter, and cinnamon powder in a small bowl. Use your fingertips or a pastry blender to work the ingredients together until they resemble coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the galette, making sure to cover the entire surface.
- Bake the galette for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is tender.
- While the galette is baking, prepare the salted caramel sauce by combining sugar, heavy cream, sea salt, vanilla extract, and unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Place it over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and turns a deep amber color.
- Remove the galette from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before serving with the salted caramel sauce drizzled on top.
