Cinnamon Apple Galette with Salted Caramel Glaze and Pecan Crust
Ingredients
- 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- Salted caramel glaze (see below)
Instructions
Prepare the Filling
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until apples are evenly coated.
- Set aside to let the filling sit for at least 30 minutes.
Make the Crust
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- In a small bowl, mix together chopped pecans and brown sugar.
- Spread the nut mixture evenly over the center of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Arrange sliced apples on top of the pecan mixture.
Assemble the Galette
- Roll the edges of the pastry over the filling to form a crust, pressing gently to seal.
- Brush the pastry with melted butter and sprinkle with salted caramel glaze (see below).
Bake the Galette
- Place the galette on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
Salted Caramel Glaze
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the glaze thickens.
Serve
Cut the galette into wedges and serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
