Cinnamon Apple Galette with Pecan Crust and Vanilla Ice Cream

Cinnamon Apple Galette with Pecan Crust and Vanilla Ice Cream

Servings: 8-10 people

Ingredients:

For the Pecan Crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Vanilla Ice Cream:

  • 1 1/2 quarts vanilla ice cream (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions:

Make the Pecan Crust:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, chopped pecans, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom.
  3. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture forms a crumbly dough.
  4. Turn the dough out onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
  5. Allow the crust to cool completely on the baking sheet.

Make the Apple Filling:

  1. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Mix until the apples are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
  2. Set the apple mixture aside for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Assemble and Bake the Galette:

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the cooled pecan crust to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).
  2. Transfer the rolled-out crust to a 9-inch (23 cm) round baking dish or a large cast-iron skillet.
  3. Arrange the apple mixture in a concentric circle pattern, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 cm) border around the edges of the crust.
  4. Fold the edges of the crust over the apples to create a decorative border. Brush the crust with a little bit of milk or beaten egg for a golden glaze.
  5. Bake the galette in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Serve with Vanilla Ice Cream:

  1. Allow the galette to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
  2. Scoop vanilla ice cream alongside each slice of the galette.
  3. Garnish with additional chopped pecans and cinnamon sticks, if desired.
