Cinnamon Apple Galette with Pecan Crumble

A delicious twist on the classic apple galette, this recipe adds a crunchy pecan crumble and a hint of cinnamon to create a perfect dessert for fall.

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

For the filling:

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the pecan crumble:

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour and salt for the crust. Add the cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the mixture into a disk shape and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).
  5. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour for the filling. Mix until the apples are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
  6. Arrange the apple mixture in a circle on one half of the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  7. Fold the other half of the dough over the apple mixture, pressing the edges to seal. Use a knife or pastry brush to create a decorative edge.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the chopped pecans and brown sugar for the crumble topping. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry blender to work it into the pecan mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  9. Sprinkle the pecan crumble evenly over the top of the galette.
  10. Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is tender.
  11. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Variations:

  • To add an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon over the pecan crumble before baking.
  • Consider adding other spices like nutmeg or cardamom to the filling mixture for added depth.
  • If you prefer a more caramelized crust, increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
