Cinnamon Apple Galette with Pecan Crumble
A delicious twist on the classic apple galette, this recipe adds a crunchy pecan crumble and a hint of cinnamon to create a perfect dessert for fall.
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
For the filling:
- 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
For the pecan crumble:
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour and salt for the crust. Add the cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingertips to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press the mixture into a disk shape and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour for the filling. Mix until the apples are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
- Arrange the apple mixture in a circle on one half of the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Fold the other half of the dough over the apple mixture, pressing the edges to seal. Use a knife or pastry brush to create a decorative edge.
- In a small bowl, mix together the chopped pecans and brown sugar for the crumble topping. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry blender to work it into the pecan mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the pecan crumble evenly over the top of the galette.
- Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Variations:
- To add an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon over the pecan crumble before baking.
- Consider adding other spices like nutmeg or cardamom to the filling mixture for added depth.
- If you prefer a more caramelized crust, increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
