Cinnamon Apple Galette with Maple Whipped Cream and Pecan Crumble Topping
Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 tablespoon ice water
For the filling:
- 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced (about 2 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter, cut into small pieces
For the topping:
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- Pecan crumble mixture (see below)
Instructions:
- Make the crust: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, stirring with a fork until the dough comes together in a ball.
- Roll out the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until the apples are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
- Assemble the galette: Arrange the apple mixture on one half of the dough circle, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 cm) border around the edges. Dot the top with butter pieces.
- Fold over the crust: Fold the other half of the dough over the apples to form a circular shape, pressing the edges together with your fingers or a fork to seal the galette.
- Bake the galette: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Maple Whipped Cream Topping:
- In a medium bowl, whip heavy cream with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add maple syrup, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract (if using). Whip until stiff peaks form.
- Set aside in the refrigerator to chill until ready to serve.
Pecan Crumble Topping:
- In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.
- Add 1/4 cup chopped pecans and stir to combine.
Serve:
Spoon the chilled whipped cream over the warm galette, then sprinkle with pecan crumble mixture. Enjoy!
