Cinnamon Apple Galette with Maple Whipped Cream and Pecan Crumble Topping

A twist on the classic apple galette, this recipe adds a sweet and sticky maple whipped cream topping and a crunchy pecan crumble mixture.

Cinnamon Apple Galette with Maple Whipped Cream and Pecan Crumble Topping

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon ice water

For the filling:

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced (about 2 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, cut into small pieces

For the topping:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • Pecan crumble mixture (see below)

Instructions:

  1. Make the crust: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, stirring with a fork until the dough comes together in a ball.
  2. Roll out the dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Transfer the dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  3. Prepare the filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until the apples are evenly coated with the dry ingredients.
  4. Assemble the galette: Arrange the apple mixture on one half of the dough circle, leaving a 1-inch (2.5 cm) border around the edges. Dot the top with butter pieces.
  5. Fold over the crust: Fold the other half of the dough over the apples to form a circular shape, pressing the edges together with your fingers or a fork to seal the galette.
  6. Bake the galette: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Maple Whipped Cream Topping:

  1. In a medium bowl, whip heavy cream with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form.
  2. Gradually add maple syrup, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract (if using). Whip until stiff peaks form.
  3. Set aside in the refrigerator to chill until ready to serve.

Pecan Crumble Topping:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.
  2. Add 1/4 cup chopped pecans and stir to combine.

Serve:

Spoon the chilled whipped cream over the warm galette, then sprinkle with pecan crumble mixture. Enjoy!
