Cinnamon Apple Galette with Cardamom and Pecans
Ingredients
- 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
Make the Filling
In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom. Toss until apples are evenly coated with dry ingredients.
Prepare the Pastry Dough
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press mixture into a disk shape. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Assemble the Galette
On a lightly floured surface, roll out chilled pastry dough to a thickness of about 1/8 inch (3 mm). Transfer dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Transfer apple filling mixture onto the center of the pastry dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle chopped pecans evenly over the apples.
Fold the Pastry
Fold the pastry edges up over the filling, pressing gently to seal. Brush the pastry edges with beaten egg for a golden glaze.
Bake and Serve
Bake galette in preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and apple filling is tender. Let cool on baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature, dust with powdered sugar if desired.
