Description
This cinnamon apple galette is a delicious twist on the classic dessert. The caramelized pecans add a nice crunch, while the bourbon whipped cream provides a rich and creamy element.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 2 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup caramelized pecans (see note)
- Bourbon whipped cream (recipe below)
Instructions
Note on Caramelizing Pecans
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Toss 1/4 cup of pecan halves with 1 tsp brown sugar and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Spread the pecans on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until fragrant and lightly caramelized.
Prepare Galette
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Add cold butter and use a pastry blender to work it into the dry ingredients until crumbly.
- Press mixture evenly onto the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan.
- Arrange sliced apples on top of dough in a concentric circle pattern, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
Bake Galette
- Fold the crust over the filling to form a galette shape and press the edges together to seal.
- Brush crust with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Bourbon Whipped Cream
- In a medium bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Add 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tbsp bourbon whiskey.
- Whip until combined and smooth.
Serve
Serve warm galette with a dollop of bourbon whipped cream on top and caramelized pecans scattered over the top.
