Cinnamon Apple Galette with Caramel Pecan Crust

A twist on the classic apple galette, featuring a caramel pecan crust and a hint of cinnamon.

The Cinnamon Apple Galette with Caramel Pecan Crust

Ingredients:

For the Caramel Pecan Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce

For the Filling:

  • 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract, chopped pecans, and caramel sauce.
  4. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan or tart dish.
  5. In another bowl, mix together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  6. Arrange the apple slices in a concentric circle pattern over the crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Dot the top of the apples with the unsalted butter.
  8. Fold the edges of the dough up over the filling, pressing gently to seal.
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes:

  • This recipe makes one 9-inch galette.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar to your taste, but keep in mind that the caramel pecan crust is quite sweet already.
  • If you want an extra crispy crust, bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
