The Cinnamon Apple Galette with Caramel Pecan Crust
Ingredients:
For the Caramel Pecan Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 tablespoon caramel sauce
For the Filling:
- 6-8 medium-sized apples, peeled and sliced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and melted butter until well combined.
- Stir in the vanilla extract, chopped pecans, and caramel sauce.
- Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan or tart dish.
- In another bowl, mix together the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Arrange the apple slices in a concentric circle pattern over the crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Dot the top of the apples with the unsalted butter.
- Fold the edges of the dough up over the filling, pressing gently to seal.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes:
- This recipe makes one 9-inch galette.
- You can adjust the amount of sugar to your taste, but keep in mind that the caramel pecan crust is quite sweet already.
- If you want an extra crispy crust, bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
