Cinnamon Apple Galette Variations

A delicious twist on the classic cinnamon apple galette, featuring a mix of Granny Smith and Gala apples, with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Cinnamon Apple Galette Variations

Ingredients

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 large Gala apple, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Confectioners' sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, flour, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. Transfer the pastry to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Spread the apple mixture over one half of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  5. Fold the other half of the pastry over the apples and press the edges to seal. Brush the egg wash over the pastry.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  7. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.

Variations

  • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg on top of the pastry before baking for extra flavor.
  • Use a combination of honey and granulated sugar to coat the apples for a touch of sweetness.
  • Substitute the Gala apple with another variety, such as Golden Delicious or Fuji, for a different flavor profile.
  • Add a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans to the apple mixture for added texture and flavor.
