Cinnamon Apple Galette Variations
Ingredients
- 2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 large Gala apple, peeled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Confectioners' sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, granulated sugar, flour, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. Transfer the pastry to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the apple mixture over one half of the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Fold the other half of the pastry over the apples and press the edges to seal. Brush the egg wash over the pastry.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.
Variations
- Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg on top of the pastry before baking for extra flavor.
- Use a combination of honey and granulated sugar to coat the apples for a touch of sweetness.
- Substitute the Gala apple with another variety, such as Golden Delicious or Fuji, for a different flavor profile.
- Add a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans to the apple mixture for added texture and flavor.
