Cinnamon Apple Galette Delight

Introduction

This cinnamon apple galette is a delightful twist on the classic apple crumble. The combination of tender apples, crunchy pastry crust, and warm cinnamon spices will leave you wanting more.

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Confectioners' sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Pastry Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold butter and use a pastry blender or your fingers to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice-cold water, stirring with a fork until the dough comes together in a ball.

Step 2: Roll Out the Pastry Crust

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pastry crust to a thickness of about 1/8 inch. Transfer the rolled-out pastry to a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.

Step 3: Prepare the Apple Filling

In a separate mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated with the spice mixture.

Step 4: Assemble the Galette

Arrange the apple filling in a circular pattern, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges of the pastry crust. Fold the edges of the pastry over the apples to form a crust, pressing gently to seal.

Step 5: Brush with Egg Wash and Bake

Brush the top of the galette with the beaten egg for a golden glaze. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Step 6: Dust with Confectioners' Sugar

Once the galette has cooled slightly, dust it with confectioners' sugar before serving.

Variations

  • To add an extra layer of flavor, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top of the apple filling before folding over the pastry.
  • For a crispy crust, bake the galette for an additional 5-10 minutes or until golden brown.
