Cinnamon Apple Crumble Muffins

Moist cinnamon-spiced muffins filled with tender apples and topped with a crunchy oat crumble.

Cinnamon Apple Crumble Muffins

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced (about 2 cups)
  • Oat crumble topping (see below)

Instructions

Preheat the oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.

Prepare the batter

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, milk, eggs, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Gently fold in diced apples.

Prepare the oat crumble topping

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Mix all the ingredients together until they resemble coarse crumbs. Set aside.

Assemble and bake the muffins

  1. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.
  2. Top each muffin with a generous amount of oat crumble topping.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool and serve

Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
