Cinnamon Apple Crumble Bars
Description
These delicious bars combine the flavors of apple crisp and biscotti in one amazing treat. The moist and tender apples are perfectly balanced by the crunchy cinnamon crumble topping.
Ingredients
For the crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the filling:
- 6 cups mixed apples (Granny Smith and Gala)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the crumble:
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and salt. Add in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is evenly moistened. Press this mixture into the prepared baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well to coat the apples with the dry ingredients. Pour the apple mixture over the crust in the baking dish.
- For the crumble topping, mix together the rolled oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cold butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg until the mixture is crumbly.
- Spread the crumble topping evenly over the apples, making sure to get it right up to the edges of the dish.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, refrigerate the bars for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
