Caramel Pecan Apple Crumble Bars

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (such as dulce de leche)
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 3-4 apples, peeled and sliced (Granny Smith or other sweet-tart variety)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat Oven and Prepare Crust

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add softened butter and mix until crumbly. Press evenly into prepared baking dish.

Step 2: Prepare Apple Mixture

In a separate bowl, combine sliced apples, caramel sauce, and chopped pecans. Mix until apples are evenly coated with caramel-pecan mixture.

Step 3: Assemble Bars

Spread apple mixture over the crust in an even layer.

Step 4: Top with Crumble Topping

Mix crumbly topping ingredients (reserved flour mixture) with additional sugar if desired. Spread evenly over the apple layer, pressing down slightly to adhere.

Step 5: Bake and Cool

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and set.

Cool completely in baking dish before slicing into bars and serving.
