Caramel Apple Tart

A sweet and tangy tart that combines the flavors of caramel, apples, and pastry.

Caramel Apple Tart

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • Confectioners' sugar for dusting

Instructions

Preparing the Pastry

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  2. Transfer the pastry to a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.

Caramelizing the Apples

  1. In a large skillet, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced apples and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they're tender and lightly caramelized.
  3. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the apples and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Assembling the Tart

  1. Arrange the caramelized apple slices in a concentric circle pattern on the pastry-lined tart pan.
  2. Fold the edges of the pastry up over the apples, pressing gently to seal.

Baking the Tart

  1. Bake the tart at 375°F (190°C) for about 40-45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  2. Remove the tart from the oven and brush the pastry with a little bit of melted butter.

Drizzling with Caramel Sauce

  1. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the apples in a zig-zag pattern.
  2. Sprinkle confectioners' sugar over the top of the tart for garnish.

Servings

This recipe makes 8-10 servings.

Tips and Variations

  • Use a variety of apple that holds its shape well, such as Granny Smith or Fuji.
  • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg powder to the pastry before baking for an extra boost of flavor.
