Caramel Apple Strata Cake
Servings: 8-10 people
Ingredients:
For the cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the streusel topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
For the caramelized apples:
- 3-4 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- To make the cake, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, whisk together softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish. Arrange half of the sliced apples on top of the batter, followed by half of the streusel topping.
- Repeat the layers: spread the remaining batter over the apples, arrange the remaining apples on top, and sprinkle with the remaining streusel topping.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Note: The strata cake will puff up while baking but will settle as it cools.
