Caramel Apple Strata Cake

Servings: 8-10 people

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the streusel topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

For the caramelized apples:

  • 3-4 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. To make the cake, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, whisk together softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  3. Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish. Arrange half of the sliced apples on top of the batter, followed by half of the streusel topping.
  4. Repeat the layers: spread the remaining batter over the apples, arrange the remaining apples on top, and sprinkle with the remaining streusel topping.
  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Note: The strata cake will puff up while baking but will settle as it cools.
