Caramel Apple Cream Puffs
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (50g) confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Filling:
- 1 large apple, peeled and caramelized
- 1/4 cup (60g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions:
Caramel Apple Cream Puffs Dough:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, confectioners' sugar, and salt.
- Add softened butter to dry ingredients; use an electric mixer to cream until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add milk; beat until well combined.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
- Spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
Caramel Apple Filling:
- In a small saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and butter over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes or until caramelized.
- Stir in cinnamon; let cool slightly.
Assembly and Baking:
- Pipe dough onto prepared baking sheet in small mounds.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow puffs to cool completely on a wire rack.
Assembly:
- Split cooled puffs in half horizontally using a serrated knife.
- Spoon caramelized apple mixture onto the bottom half of each puff.
- Top with caramel filling, then cover with top puff halves.
Serving Suggestions:
- Dust tops with confectioners' sugar before serving
- Serve warm or at room temperature
