Caramel Apple Cream Puffs

A creative twist on traditional cream puffs, featuring caramelized apples and a gooey caramel center.

Caramel Apple Cream Puffs

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup (50g) confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Filling:
    • 1 large apple, peeled and caramelized
    • 1/4 cup (60g) granulated sugar
    • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions:

Caramel Apple Cream Puffs Dough:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, confectioners' sugar, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter to dry ingredients; use an electric mixer to cream until light and fluffy.
  4. Gradually add milk; beat until well combined.
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
  6. Spoon dough into a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.

Caramel Apple Filling:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine granulated sugar, corn syrup, and butter over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes or until caramelized.
  3. Stir in cinnamon; let cool slightly.

Assembly and Baking:

  1. Pipe dough onto prepared baking sheet in small mounds.
  2. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Allow puffs to cool completely on a wire rack.

Assembly:

  1. Split cooled puffs in half horizontally using a serrated knife.
  2. Spoon caramelized apple mixture onto the bottom half of each puff.
  3. Top with caramel filling, then cover with top puff halves.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Dust tops with confectioners' sugar before serving
  • Serve warm or at room temperature
