Apple and Pecan Crumble Bars
Ingredients
- 2 pounds mixed apples (Gala, Granny Smith), peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
Make the Crust
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the oats, brown sugar, flour, and salt. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry blender to work it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Prepare the Apples
- In a separate large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated with the dry mixture.
- Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top of the apple mixture.
Make the Crumble
- In the same medium bowl used for the crust, combine the crumbly mixture and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined.
Assemble and Bake
- Evenly distribute the crumble mixture on top of the apples.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Cool and Serve
- Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan.
- Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.
