Apple and Cinnamon Waffles with Cream Cheese Topping
Ingredients
For the Waffles:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup diced apple (about 1 medium apple)
- Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
For the Cream Cheese Topping:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh apple (about 1/2 medium apple)
Instructions
Make the Waffles:
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, cinnamon, and diced apple.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Do not overmix.
Cook the Waffles:
- The batter should still be slightly lumpy.
- Pour about 1/4 cup of the batter onto the center of the waffle iron.
- Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown.
- Repeat with the remaining batter.
Make the Cream Cheese Topping:
- In a medium bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
- Add the softened butter, vanilla extract, and confectioners' sugar.
- Beat until combined and creamy.
Assemble and Serve:
- Dust the waffles with confectioners' sugar.
- Top each waffle with a dollop of the cream cheese mixture.
- Garnish with chopped fresh apple.
Notes
- You can make the batter ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
- If you prefer a crispy waffle, cook them for an additional minute or until golden brown.
- The cream cheese topping can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
