Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (105°F to 115°F)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- Apple cinnamon filling:
- 1 large apple, peeled and grated
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Confectioners' sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Stir to dissolve yeast, then let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add melted butter, egg, and yeast mixture to dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10-12 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Apple Cinnamon Filling
- In a small saucepan, combine grated apple, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender and mixture is syrupy.
Assembly and Baking
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch (6 mm).
- Spread apple cinnamon filling evenly over the center of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on either side.
- Fold one long edge of dough over filling, then fold in the other edges, making sure to seal the buns well.
- Place buns on prepared baking sheets and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
- Drizzle glaze over warm buns and sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
