Apple Cider Donuts with Salted Caramel Dipping Sauce and Cinnamon Swirl

Warm, crispy donuts infused with apple cider and topped with a crunchy cinnamon swirl, served with a side of rich salted caramel dipping sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Salt to taste
  • Confectioners' sugar for dusting

Instructions

Make the Donuts

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine apple cider and granulated sugar over medium heat.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes or until syrupy.
  3. Let cool slightly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, salt, and cinnamon.
  5. Add melted butter, egg, and apple cider mixture to the dry ingredients.
  6. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  7. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Proof and Cut

  1. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap.
  2. Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  3. Preheat oil to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Punch down dough and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  5. Use a donut cutter or glass to cut out circles of dough.

Fry the Donuts

  1. Carefully place donuts in hot oil, 3-4 at a time.
  2. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  3. Drain on paper towels.

Make the Cinnamon Swirl

  1. In a small bowl, mix together sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Sprinkle evenly over donuts before frying.

Make the Salted Caramel Dipping Sauce

  1. Melt caramel candies in a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Stir in sea salt until combined.

Assembly

  1. Dust warm donuts with confectioners' sugar.
  2. Serve immediately with salted caramel dipping sauce and cinnamon swirl on top.
